Message about the SY22-23 PSSAs

Our Middle School

Creating a middle school has long been a goal of RBCS. On August 27, 2018, after a year of extensive construction, we welcomed our first 8th grade class.

Architect Jamie Unkefer of Digsau has used color and special products to enhance the learning experience for our students. Miniature lockers teach students about combinations; the rain garden demonstrates STEM subjects, such as water conservation and native ecosystems; and our color-coded pipes explain important building systems, such as how electricity is carried through the building or why dedicated pipes are required to carry water, drainage and fire protection.

We are thrilled that we can now extend Russell Byers’ values of academic excellence, civic responsibility and community service to older students.

The 4 Rs

The 4 Rs represent the RBCS philosophy put forth by our namesake Russell Byers. In the new middle school we have four murals painted on barn doors which open and close to provide small or larger group interactive learning. Each murals stands for one of our most important tenants: Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Reflection.

CREW

The structure of CREW allows for relationship building, academic progress monitoring, and character development. CREW allows students to build positive connections with their peers and with their CREW leader. CREW leaders strategically plan activities to support these goals. Service Projects are a critical part of CREW. They are also encouraged as a way to build a student’s list of achievements through volunteer work to improve their opportunities to attend a quality secondary school.
