Job Title: Cultural Arts Teacher - Civics

Position Overview:

The K-8 Civics Preparation Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering comprehensive
civics education curriculum and instruction to students in kindergarten through eighth grade. This
position plays a critical role in fostering civic knowledge, skills, and engagement among students toprepare them to be informed and active citizens in their communities and beyond.

Key Responsibilities:

Curriculum Development:

● Implement a standards-aligned civics education curriculum for students in
kindergarten through eighth grade.
● Design engaging and interactive lessons, activities, and projects that promote civic
knowledge, skills, and values.
● Incorporate current events, real-world examples, and diverse perspectives into
instruction to make civics relevant and meaningful for students.

Instructional Delivery:

● Deliver dynamic and inquiry-based civics instruction that engages students in
critical thinking, discussion, and action.
● Provide direct instruction, facilitate group activities, and use multimedia resources
to enhance student learning and understanding.
● Foster a positive and inclusive classroom environment that encourages active
participation and respectful dialogue about civic issues and responsibilities.
Civic Engagement:
● Promote civic engagement opportunities for students, such as community service
projects, service-learning experiences, and participation in civic organizations and
events.
● Encourage students to explore their roles and responsibilities as active members of
their school, community, and society.
● Facilitate discussions and activities that encourage students to express their
viewpoints, advocate for causes, and take action on issues that matter to them.

Collaboration and Professional Development:

● Collaborate with colleagues, administrators, and community partners to align civics
education initiatives with school goals and priorities.
● Participate in professional development opportunities to stay current on best
practices in civics education and instructional strategies.
● Share resources, ideas, and strategies with colleagues to enhance civics instruction
and promote a culture of civic engagement schoolwide.
Classroom Management:
● Implement effective classroom management strategies to create a safe, supportive,
and respectful learning environment.
● Establish clear expectations for behavior and academic engagement, and
consistently reinforce these expectations with positive reinforcement and
appropriate consequences.
● Address student behavior issues promptly and constructively, using restorative
practices and conflict resolution techniques when necessary.
● Foster a sense of community and belonging in the classroom, where all students
feel valued, respected, and empowered to participate.

Qualifications:

● Bachelor's degree in Education, Social Studies, Political Science, or related field; Master's
degree preferred.
● Valid PA teaching certification with endorsements in social studies or civics education..
● Deep understanding of civics education standards, principles, and best practices.
● Strong instructional and curriculum development skills, with the ability to design and
deliver engaging civics instruction to students of all ages.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive
relationships with students, colleagues, families, and community members.
● Commitment to promoting civic knowledge, skills, and engagement among students to
empower them as active and responsible citizens.

Salary is commensurate with experience
