Laurada Byers, Founder of Russell Byers Charter School
Laurada Byers is a celebrated community leader and the founder of the Russell Byers Charter School in Philadelphia. She established the school in 2001 as a tribute to her late husband, Russell Byers, a well-known Philadelphia columnist. For over two decades, Ms. Byers has dedicated herself to the school and its mission of providing a rigorous and supportive learning environment for its students.
Recently, the school community came together to celebrate Ms. Byers' retirement and honor her years of service and dedication. In recognition of her lasting impact, the Laurada Byers Fund has been established to support the school's programs. Beyond her work with the school, Ms. Byers is also the founder of the Philadelphia Film Festival and has authored several books. Her contributions to the city of Philadelphia have been widely recognized, earning her numerous awards for her community service.
